The blue euro is the euro on the informal market: the same circuit of cuevas and arbolitos as the blue dollar, with less volume. In practice its price is the blue dollar times the day's euro-dollar parity, minus a discount because euros are harder to place in Argentina. The official euro is Banco Nación's.
If you are bringing euros, you get a better deal changing them into dollars in Europe and bringing dollars, or paying by card, than selling euros at a cueva. 100 and 200 euro notes fetch more than small ones.
There are fewer public sources for the euro than for the dollar, and they disagree more. So each one is held against its own blue dollar at the euro-dollar parity of the day, and one that strays from that reference does not go into the average.
Frequently asked questions
What is the blue euro rate today?
Today the blue euro sells at ARS 1,761.04 and buys at ARS 1,738.53.
Should I bring euros or dollars to Argentina?
Dollars. Euros are paid at a discount on the informal market and have fewer buyers; changing euros into dollars in Europe and bringing 100-dollar bills usually yields more.
